About Dalyan

A Hidden Gem on the Mediterranean Coast

Dalyan, connected to the Ortaca district of Muğla, is a peaceful holiday destination renowned for its pristine nature, clean sea, and rich historical heritage. Located along the canal linking Köyceğiz Lake to the Mediterranean Sea, Dalyan is surrounded by lush forests and mountains, offering a serene retreat between the lively resorts of Fethiye and Marmaris.

Although often associated with the Aegean Region, Dalyan is geographically part of the Mediterranean Region. Its sheltered position, surrounded by mountains, creates a typical Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. The swimming season here is extended, lasting from April to November, making Dalyan one of the earliest coastal towns to open for beach activities.

The name "Dalyan" comes from the traditional fish traps called “dalyan” used on the Dalyan Stream, reflecting the town’s origins as a fishing community. While fertile agricultural lands are present, tourism has become the main source of income. With a stable winter population of approximately 5,000, Dalyan maintains its calm atmosphere even as the population grows during the summer months.
